Investors in People
What is an Investors in People organisation?“An organisation that has consistently demonstrated good practice in their approach to people management and development, as defined by the Investors in People national standard and confirmed through independent assessment”
Since 1997, Yell UK has successfully retained Investors in People recognition by undergoing triennial, independent assessment. As well as confirming recognition of good practice, these assessments provide an independent perspective on our strengths and areas for improvement in relation to the management and development of our people.
2005 saw the launch of ‘Profile’ - an improved and more demanding IiP standard with a number of additional, explicit requirements for organisations to meet. These include stronger emphasis on organisational culture, recruitment and selection, involvement in decision making, fairness of reward and recognition, leadership and management responsibilities, equality of opportunity and diversity, work life balance, external learning and benchmarking to improve people strategies and approaches.
In addition, the ‘Profile’ framework provides a further level of ‘stretch’ for organisations pursuing best practice.

- First recognised as an Investor in People in 1997

- Excellent career prospects
- High ethical standards and strong values

Champion status is awarded for three years to organisations that have been outstanding in promoting the people related values and principles of the Standard and who have led by example in the way they manage and develop their own people.
There are currently over 61,000 organisations in the UK working with the Investors Standard, over 37,000 of them are formally recognised as an Investor in People. Only 36 organisations have been awarded Champion status. It is a rare and significant accolade and is testament to the skills and abilities of our people.
As an IiP Champion, Yell will be working closely with other organisations who are interested in improving their performance to promote good practice in people management and development. We will share our experience and approaches through a series of best practice events. We will network and learn from the other IiP Champion organisations and we will also play a vital role in any future revisions of the IiP standard, with an aim to ensure the standard remains stretching and in line with excellence in workplace trends.
