Poole households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages - 6 November 2001
Householders across Poole are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new Yellow Pages – sporting fluffy chicks on the front cover – are delivered across the area. The campaign aims to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages – which show fish on the front cover – and recycle them into card and animal bedding materials.
Louise Lowans, a recycling officer for Poole said: “If every household in Poole threw away its Yellow Pages, it would cost the council more than £2,000 to dispose of them all in landfill sites. But this year there is no excuse for throwing them away because it is easier than ever before to recycle your Yellow Pages. Residents can now add the directories to the council’s black box kerbside recycling scheme or place them in the three special Yellow Pages recycling banks set up in the borough.”
Poole has received funding from The Directory Recycling Scheme, sponsored by Yellow Pages, for the special recycling bins. The bins are clearly marked with Yellow Pages recycling stickers and will be in place from November 20 until December 17 at the following locations:
· Canford Heath – Somerfield’s Car Park
· Branksome - Homebase Car Park, Redlands
· Town Centre – Sainsbury’s Car Park, Pitwines
Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of The Directory Recycling Scheme, added: “Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major strategy for Yellow Pages in promoting environment-friendly activities. We are pleased to be supporting Poole council – I’m sure this year’s campaign will be very successful.”
