Exeter households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in kerbside scheme - 9 September 2002

Householders across Exeter are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new edition of the Exeter directory - showing sandcastles on the front cover - is delivered across the area.

The campaign is being run by Exeter City Council and supported by The Directory Recycling Scheme, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages – featuring fluffy chicks on the front cover - and recycle them via the council’s ‘Recycle From Home Scheme’, or through several special banks situated at the following locations during September:

- Sainsbury’s, Alphington Road
- Tesco’s, Rydon Lane
- Co-op pioneer, Prince Charles Road
- Bampfylde Street car park
- Fairpark car park, Magdalen Road

The campaign has been boosted by a grant from The Directory Recycling Scheme to pay for the scheme’s publicity.

Jayne Donovan, head of environmental health services with Exeter City Council, said: “It has never been easier to recycle your old Yellow Pages. Simply place them in your green wheeled bin or kerbside box if you are part of the Recycle From Home Scheme, or take them to one of the designated recycling centres in the city, where we will have special banks for the directories.”

Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of The Directory Recycling Scheme, said: “Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major environmental strategy for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit for the environment and recycle their directory at home or in one of the special banks provided by the council.”
