Manchester households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in special banks - 8 August 2002
Householders are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recyclingcampaign, which begins when the new edition of the Manchester directory -
showing sandcastles on the front cover - is delivered across the city.
The campaign is being run by Manchester City Council and supported by The
Directory Scheme, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to
collect thousands of old Yellow Pages - featuring fluffy chicks on the
front cover - in special collection banks and to recycle them.
From August 6 until September 29, banks clearly displaying Yellow
Pages recycling stickers will be sited at the following locations:
· Safeway, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton
· Asda, Greenheys Lane, Hulme
· Asda, Moston Lane, Harpurhey
· Asda, Alan Turing Way, Bradford
· Emerge Recycling, New Smithfield Market, Whitworth Street East,
Openshaw
The campaign has been boosted by a grant from The Directory Recycling
Scheme to Manchester City Council.
Councillor Sue Murphy, Manchester City Council's executive member for
Direct Services, said: "Throughout the city of Manchester, there is the
potential to save 170,000 Yellow Pages from landfill. We hope that having
these special banks will be a great encouragement to our residents to
recycle their old Yellow Pages and to demonstrate their commitment to caring for
the environment."
Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of The Directory Recycling Scheme, said:
"Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major environmental strategy
for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit and take their
directory along to one of the recycling banks."
