Tewkesbury Borough households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in Special Banks - 9 April 2002

Householders across Tewkesbury borough are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new edition of the Gloucester directory – sporting fluffy chicks on the front cover – is delivered across the area.

The campaign is being run by Tewkesbury Borough Council and supported by The Directory Recycling Scheme, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages – featuring fish on the front cover - and recycle them in special collection banks.

The campaign has been boosted by a grant from The Directory Recycling Scheme to Tewkesbury Borough Council.

From 10th April 2002 to 20th May 2002, banks clearly displaying Yellow Pages recycling stickers will be sited at the following locations:
· Spring Gardens car park, Tewkesbury
· Chapel Hay car park, Church Road, Churchdown
· Back Lane car park, Winchcombe

All Yellow Pages collected will be taken to Betta Bedding where they will be recycled into animal bedding.

Kim Carpenter, recycling officer with Tewkesbury Borough Council, said: “Throughout Tewkesbury, there is the potential to save over 30,000 copies of Yellow Pages from landfill. We hope that having these special banks will be a great encouragement to our residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages.”

Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of The Directory Recycling Scheme, added: “Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major environmental strategy for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit and take their directory along to one of the recycling banks.”
