Vale Royal households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in special banks - 2 September 2003

Householders across Vale Royal are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new edition of the South Manchester directory - showing the ‘Walking Fingers’ logo on the front cover - is delivered across the area.

The campaign is being run by Vale Royal Borough Council and supported by the Directory Recycling Scheme, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages - featuring sandcastles on the front cover - and recycle them in special collection banks.

The campaign has been boosted by a grant from the Directory Recycling Scheme to Vale Royal Borough Council. From the end of August to 3rd October, banks clearly displaying Yellow Pages recycling stickers will be sited at the following locations:

- Morrison’s supermarket, Winsford
- Sainsbury's supermarket, Northwich

All Yellow Pages collected will recycled into card.

Alison Hunter, waste development manager with Vale Royal Borough Council, said: "Throughout Vale Royal, there is the potential to save 14 tonnes of Yellow Pages from landfill. We hope that having these special banks will be a great encouragement to our residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages."

Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of the Directory Recycling Scheme, said: "Supporting local authorities to recycle old directories is a major environmental strategy for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit and take their old directory along to one of the recycling banks."
