Weymouth and Portland households urged to recycle old Yellow Pages in kerbside scheme - 11 November 2003

Householders across Weymouth and Portland are being urged to participate in a Yellow Pages recycling campaign, which starts when the new edition of the Bournemouth directory, featuring the ‘walking fingers’ logo on the front cover, is delivered across the area.

The campaign is being run by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and supported by the Directory Recycling Scheme, which is sponsored by Yellow Pages. The aim is to collect thousands of old Yellow Pages - featuring sandcastles on the front cover - and recycle them via the council’s green box kerbside scheme or the household waste recycling centres.

The campaign has been boosted by a grant from the Directory Recycling Scheme to Dorset County Council.

Gary Hedges, recycling & waste management officer with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council said: "It has never been easier to recycle your old Yellow Pages. Simply place them in your regular kerbside box or take them to the household waste recycling centres sites at Lodmoor or Easton."

Adam Billiald, co-ordinator of the Directory Recycling Scheme, said: "Supporting local authorities to recycle directories is a major environmental strategy for Yellow Pages. I encourage everyone to do their bit for the environment and recycle their directory via the council’s kerbside scheme."

Further information can be obtained by contacting Gary Hedges, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, on 01305 838273.
