Recycle Yellow Pages into prizes in Colchester - 23 August 2006

Residents who recycle their old Yellow Pages directories could win a prize in the latest competition run by Colchester Borough Council and the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme.

Environmental wind-up radios are being given away in a directory recycling initiative that is open to everyone living in the Colchester area.

To enter, residents simply need to write their name and contact details on the front cover of their old 2005/6 Yellow Pages directory and then put it out in a plastic carrier bag with their usual kerbside recycling before Monday 18 September 2006.

Three old directories will be chosen at random and the winners will each receive a radio that requires no batteries or electricity, just a little elbow power, worth £40 each.

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: “As a company, we’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment and the competition is a fun way of encouraging residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages directories when we deliver the new edition over the next few weeks.”

Cllr Christopher Arnold, Portfolio Holder for Street Services, said: “One of our priorities is for Colchester to become the cleanest and greenest borough in the country and this competition is another great way of helping people to realise the importance of recycling. As soon as you get your new Yellow Pages, please recycle your old copy via our kerbside scheme. And for the chance to win a prize, remember to write your name and phone number on the cover.”

All the directories collected will be recycled into cardboard products by Heys Paper Merchant based in Colchester.
