The time is right to recycle old Yellow Pages directories - 30 October 2006

When it comes to recycling your old 2005/06 Yellow Pages directory, now is the best time to do it.

Over the next few weeks, homes and businesses across Dorset will be receiving the new 2006/07 Bournemouth edition of the Yellow Pages directory.

Dorset County Council and the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme are urging households and businesses to recycle their old edition as soon as the new copy is delivered.

Old Yellow Pages directories can be recycled via your kerbside recycling collection scheme operated by your local District or Borough council; at the paper recycling banks found across the county, and at your local Household Recycling Centre. All directories collected will be recycled into new cardboard.

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: “As a business committed to the environment, we encourage everyone to recycle as much as they can, as regularly as possible; however, when it comes to recycling old Yellow Pages directories, the best time to do it is when the new edition has just been delivered.”

Louise Colclough, Waste Policy Manager with Dorset County Council, said: “Most people are already in the habit of regularly recycling old newspapers, bottles and cans. Over the next few weeks, we are asking residents to recycle one extra item – their old 2005/06 Yellow Pages directory. If everyone who receives the new Bournemouth edition recycles their old one, it will make a real contribution to the environment.”
