Yellow Pages Recycling Winner in West Oxfordshire - 18 October 2006
One lucky householder from Chipping Norton has won £50 in West Oxfordshire District Council’s summer prize draw by recycling her old Yellow Pages directory in one of the designated recycling banks.Mrs Robinson of Distons Lane, Chipping Norton, recycled her old Yellow Pages directory at the recycling bank in the New Street car park and it was randomly selected in the September draw.
“I wouldn’t want to just throw away my old directory when it can be reused,” said Mrs Robinson, who is 82 years old. She made a special effort to recycle her old Yellow Pages directory by putting it in her shopping trolley to help get it up the hill to the recycling banks in the New Street car park. She added, “It was a lovely surprise to receive £50 in the post.”
Cllr David Harvey said, “This year’s Yellow Pages recycling scheme has been a huge success with 14.34 tonnes of old Yellow Pages directories being diverted from landfill, almost double what we collected a year ago. All the old directories collected will be recycled into newspapers and magazines.”
The previous month’s prize winner was Shelagh Scott from Dancer’s Hill, Charlbury.
