The time is right to recycle old Yellow Pages directories in Aberdeenshire - 15 May 2007

When it comes to recycling your old 2006/07 Yellow Pages directory, now is the best time to do it.

Over the next few weeks, homes across Aberdeenshire will be receiving their new, 2007/08 edition of the directory.

Aberdeenshire Council and the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme are urging households to recycle their old edition as soon as the new copy is delivered.

Old Yellow Pages directories can be recycled via the Household Waste and Recycling Centres at:

Alford, Banchory, Elllon, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Insch, Inverurie, Laurencekirk, Macduff, Peterhead, Portsoy, Turriff, Westhill and Stonehaven.

Recycling Points can also be used at the following four locations:

  • Aboyne - old Station Yard car park
  • Ballater - Church Square car park
  • Mintlaw - council depot, South Street and
  • Portlethen - Asda car park.

The special Yellow Pages directory recycling containers will be available for eight weeks only, from 21st May to 15th July.

All directories collected by Aberdeenshire Council will be composted. It is important that the directories are only put in the special Yellow Pages collection containers. They cannot be recycled with the contents of the normal paper recycling containers and cannot be picked up with any kerbside paper recycling collections.

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: “As a business committed to the environment, we encourage everyone to recycle as much as they can, as regularly as possible; however, when it comes to recycling old Yellow Pages directories, the best time to do it is when the new edition has just been delivered.”

Christine Gore, Director of Planning & Environmental Services with Aberdeenshire Council, said: “Many people are already in the habit of recycling old newspapers, bottles and cans. Over the next few weeks, we are simply asking residents to recycle one extra item – their old 2006/07 Yellow Pages directory. If everyone in Aberdeenshire recycles their old directory when the new one is delivered, it will make a real contribution to the local environment.”
