The time is right to recycle old Yellow Pages directories in Aberdeenshire - 15 May 2008
When it comes to recycling your old 2007/08 Yellow Pages directory, now is the ideal time to do it.Over the next few weeks, homes across Aberdeenshire will be receiving their new 2008/09 edition of the directory and Aberdeenshire Council and the Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Scheme are urging households to recycle their old edition as soon as the new copy is delivered.
Old Yellow Pages directories can be recycled via clearly labelled special directory collection points at most Household Waste & Recycling Centres and four Recycling Points in Aberdeenshire. The Household Waste & Recycling Centres are those at:
- Alford
- Banchory
- Ellon
- Fraserburgh
- Huntly
- Insch
- Inverurie
- Laurencekirk
- Macduff
- Peterhead
- Portsoy
- Stonehaven
- Turriff
- Westhill
The directories can also be recycled at these four Recycling Points only:
- Aboyne (Old Station Yard car park)
- Ballater (Church Square car park)
- Mintlaw (Council Depot, South Street)
- Portlethen (Asda car park)
The special Yellow Pages directory recycling containers will be available for eight weeks only - from May 19 to July 13, 2008.
It is important that the directories are only put in the special Yellow Pages collection containers. They should not be put in the normal paper recycling points, or in the kerbside paper recycling collection, as they are being collected in bulk for separate recycling treatment.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: “As a business committed to the environment, we encourage everyone to recycle as much as they can, as regularly as possible; however, when it comes to recycling old Yellow Pages directories, the best time to do it is when the new edition has just been delivered.”
Diane Rotherham, recycling officer with Aberdeenshire Council, said: “Many people are already in the habit of recycling old newspapers, bottles and cans. Over the next few weeks, we are simply asking residents to recycle one extra item – their old 2007/08 Yellow Pages directory. If everyone in Aberdeenshire recycles their old directory when the new one is delivered, it will make a real environmental contribution.”
