Yellow Pages Picks Up Top European Award - 6 October 1999

Yellow Pages has won the European Quality Award, the coveted pan-European Business Excellence Award created and managed by the European Foundation for Quality Management and endorsed by the European Commission and the European Organisation for Quality.

Presented this year at a ceremony in Brussels attended by the King of the Belgians, the European Quality Awards are aimed at recognising and promoting organisations that demonstrate the highest level of commitment to improving business performance, employee participation and customer satisfaction.

Yellow Pages Managing Director, John Condron, said that since the first Yellow Pages directory was published in Brighton over 30 years ago, the organisation has achieved Superbrand status and become one of the most successful companies in the UK. He said Yellow Pages had done this through its commitment to excellence in all aspects of the business.

"We’re obsessed with improving how we do things and our success comes from working with all those who have a 'stake' in that success - our customers, our suppliers, our people, the community at large and our shareholder, BT. Our people, products and services place us at the forefront of our market and winning the European Quality Award for large businesses shows that our approach and performance are outstanding.

"We faced some very stiff competition from elite companies from throughout Europe and we are proud to have come out on top," Mr Condron said.

Each year the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) presents Awards and Prizes across several categories. This follows a lengthy and rigorous assessment by expert assessors drawn from top companies in Europe.
