From small acorns ... - 24 July 2000

What do the Yellow Pages Reading Half Marathon, the Madlanders UK Challenge, tarot card reading, raffles, quizzes, lottery bonus ball and a Shorts and Shades Day have in common?

They are just some of the many fundraising events in which employees from the Yellow Pages Group in the Midlands Region have participated to raise much needed cash for Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust.

A cheque for £3,427.70 was presented today to George Brown, community fundraising manager for Acorns, at the company’s Midlands Region Cycle Review. The West Midlands charity looks after children with rare diseases from
0 - 19 years of age across the Region.

Acorns is a charity offering an all round network of support at home as well as respite care and bereavement friendship to West Midlands’ families who are caring for a life-limited child. A life-limited child is one that is not expected to reach adulthood.

"We gave ourselves 6 months to raise £2,000 for the charity, but we simply got carried away!" explains Anne Hall, Regional Managers Secretary, Yellow Pages Group Field Sales, Midlands Region. "We had such fun with a series of really enjoyable fundraising ideas and easily smashed through the original target. It was good for teamwork and obviously good news for the charity."

George Brown, Acorns Children’s Hospice, accepted the cheque and added: "We’re extremely grateful to everyone within Yellow Pages who has supported us. And it’s an added bonus that they managed to raise so much more than expected. Every penny will be well spent, trying to make things a little better for the children who are with us."
