Local School Learns The Lesson of Success From Stephanie Cook - 23 November 2000
Local pupils at Highdown School were given first class sporting advice at Highdown School today by Olympic Gold Medallist, Stephanie Cook who was promoting the 2001 Yellow Pages Reading Mini-Marathon.The one-mile race, which will take place on the multi-terrain course at Rivermead Leisure Complex on Sunday 11 March 2001, is open to young people aged between ten and sixteen and there are individual and school prizes to be won.
During her visit, Stephanie talked about her training experiences and of how important it is to have support from family and friends. She also spoke of her Olympic experience in Australia earlier this year and the thrill of winning her Gold Medal. Pupils asked questions about her favourite food and other members of the Olympic teams she met.
Richard Duggleby, Yellow Pages Head of External Relations said: "The main aim of today was to promote the fun elements of running whilst educating and informing children. Stephanie is a great motivator and an excellent role model for the sporting stars of tomorrow."
Jon Hartley, lead councillor for Cultural Services said: "We were delighted to welcome Stephanie at Highdown today. She made a real impression on all of the children, and we hope she will have inspired them all to take part in the Race."
