Stephanie Cook and Guy Harris Launch the Yellow Pages Reading Half Marathon 2001 - 6 November 2000

Olympic Gold Medallist, Stephanie Cook and 2TEN FM’s own Guy Harris, joined representatives from the Yellow Pages Group and Reading Borough Council today to launch the Yellow Pages Reading Half Marathon 2001.

Starting and finishing at Rivermead Leisure Complex on Sunday 11th March, the race will be hosting the Amateur Athletic Association of England Half Marathon Championship for 2001 and looks forward to welcoming all the elite athletes who will be taking part.

Stephanie, who won her gold medal on the last day of the Sydney Games in the women’s modern pentathlon, was also joined by 2TEN FM’s Morning Crew DJ, Guy Harris, who will be taking part in the race for the first time. As Guy’s involvement shows, not all runners are serious athletes, showing the real fun and family spirit of this annual event. Guy will be running to raise money for 2TEN’s own charity, Give a Child a Chance.

Richard Duggleby, Head of External Relations said: "The Yellow Pages Group is proud to have been associated with the Reading Half Marathon for the past six years and the AAA’s endorsement certainly reinforces its position as an important sporting event. Yellow Pages is really excited about next years race and we are sure that it will be a great day for everyone involved."

Jon Hartley, Reading Borough Council’s lead councillor for cultural services said: "The Yellow Pages Reading Half Marathon is the highlight of our sporting calendar and attracts many people from across the country. We are delighted that Olympic Gold Medallist Stephanie Cook will be launching this important event and hope this will encourage even more people to get involved. The Yellow Pages Reading Half Marathon is always great fun for runners and spectators alike and I am thoroughly looking forward to race day."
