Last year 100+ schools collected 30 tonnes of old Yellow Pages directories for recycling into a new animal bedding product called Newshred. This year the schools have staggered the organisers by collecting 45 tonnes - an increase of 50 per cent!

In a countywide competition, TRANNACK school of Helston are the new County Champions.

Carbeile School were judged to have built the winning sculpture: a model of Maryfield Church, using 1000 directories. This sculpture will be re-built by the youngsters for display at the Eden Project.

The Directory Recycling Scheme, supported by Yell, co-ordinates Yellow Pages recycling nationally and is delighted once again with Cornwall's efforts. In recognition of the outstanding results, each school will receive a voucher for a tree to plant in their school grounds.

Green paper banks strategically placed around the County and kerbside collections organised by District/Borough Councils brought in a further 15 tonnes of Yellow Pages - bringing this year's grand total to a stunning 60 tonnes.

A prize giving photo opportunity has been arranged for May 16th at 12.30am at the offices of Cornwall Paper Company, Wilson Way, Pool, Redruth.
