Charity begins at the Yell.com/Awards 2001 - 10 September 2001

Out of thousands of nominations, six websites have been shortlisted for the Best Charity Site in the Yell.com/Awards 2001- the people’s choice of the ‘best on the Net’. In keeping with the spirit of the Yell.com/Awards the Best Charity Site category rewards those websites dedicated to giving something back to society.

The shortlisted sites for the Best Charity Site are allaboutgiving.org, barnardos.co.uk, inkindgiving.co.uk, rspca.co.uk, sightsavers.org.uk and nspcc.org.uk/donate-4-free. These websites have now entered the second phase of the judging process and a panel of high profile media judges will decide which will win a prestigious Yell.com/Award 2001.

The awards shortlist shows that a big marketing budget is not a prerequisite for producing a great website, with big names such as barnardos.org.uk and rspca.co.uk rated alongside smaller charities like sightsavers.org.uk and inkindgiving.co.uk. The shortlist demonstrates how charities of all sizes are discovering the power of the internet to keep their supporters in touch with their charity news as well as reach potential donors.

John Condron, CEO of Yell, said: “It’s been another great year for the Yell.com/Awards with an incredible 50% increase in nominations. The Websites that have been shortlisted in the Best Charity Site category should be proud of their achievement - they truly do represent the people’s choice of the best on the Net.”

The judges now face the difficult task of selecting one winner in each of the twelve categories. The winning Websites will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony, hosted by Graham Norton, at the Atlantis Gallery in London on 3 October 2001. Sonique and Talvin Singh will be performing at the awards ceremony.
