Getting Healthy Beside the Seaside - 1 April 2001

Thank you, thank you, thank you! That’s the message to all the Environmental Reps and Yell people who helped collect books to sell in Marie Curie Cancer Care’s charity shops up and down the country.

“Book sales help us raise much needed funds for people with cancer,” explains Sue Price, PR Manager, Marie Curie Cancer Care. “When book donations from the public started to dwindle, we asked if Yell could help. I couldn’t believe it when we were told that over a thousand books and nearly £400 had been collected. It’s a huge boost – thank you very much.”

The book donations follow on from a very successful Daffodil Campaign, from which it is hoped the charity will raise in excess of £3 million. The Daffodil Roadshow, sponsored by Yellow Pages directories, visited 29 locations and featured in more than 30 newspapers and magazines. The campaign was featured in 350 advertorials.

Next stop for our Daffodil Bus is the seaside – but for business, not pleasure! We will be taking the Healthier Lifestyles Roadshow to the west coast during May and the south coast in August. Marie Curie Nurses will be conducting health checks while the Natural Theatre Company will be getting across serious cancer prevention messages, dressed as typical seaside characters in some truly comical performances.

Blackpool: 27 May
Southport: 29 May
