Kids say what’s hot and what’s not at the Yell.com/Awards 2001 - 10 September 2001

Out of thousands of nominations, seven Websites have been shortlisted for the Best Kids and Youth Site in the Yell.com/Awards 2001- the people’s choice of the ‘best on the Net’. The shortlisted sites are bbc.co.uk/so, T2online.co.uk, funwithspot.co.uk, dubit.co.uk, kidzunited.com, bubblegumclub.com, and bbc.co.uk/newsround.

Kids are using the internet more than ever before and as net experts they know what’s hot and what’s not. However it is not only kids voting in this category, but parents and teachers have also nominated their favourite sites.

These shortlisted sites reflect some of the best offerings to the younger web audience. They range from bbc.co.uk/newsround, full of topical news, to funwithspot.co.uk, an expansion on the Spot children’s books offering interactive games and a ‘grown-ups’ section for parents and teachers.

John Condron, CEO of Yell, said: “It’s been another great year for the Yell.com/Awards and with an incredible 50% increase in nominations. The Websites that have been shortlisted in the Best Kids and Youth Site category should be proud of their achievement - they truly do represent the people’s choice of the best on the Net.”

The judges now face the difficult task of selecting one winner in each of the twelve categories. The winning Websites will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony, hosted by Graham Norton, at the Atlantis Gallery in London on 3 October 2001. Sonique and Talvin Singh will be performing at the awards ceremony.
