Yell to introduce new Yellow Pages directories covering areas of Bedford & Milton Keynes and Luton & Stevenage - 12 April 2001

Plans by Yell – formerly the Yellow Pages group – to introduce a new, more localised Yellow Pages directory for Bedford & Milton Keynes and a brand new directory for the Luton & Stevenage area are going ahead. At the beginning of the year, as part of a major listening campaign, Yell invited approximately 9,900 local and national advertisers in the existing Bedford Yellow Pages directory and members of the public to comment on the proposed changes.

The response to the consultation was overwhelming: over 72% of advertisers responding said they were in favour of the proposals.

As well as listening to advertisers, Yell launched a press and radio campaign across the current Bedford directory area, inviting people living and working in the region to voice their opinions on the proposed Bedford & Milton Keynes and Luton & Stevenage Yellow Pages directories. In addition, the company contacted local councillors asking for their views.

As a result of the positive response, Yell will now be introducing new, separate Yellow Pages directories in April 2002.

The existing Bedford Yellow Pages directory covers a wide area including the main towns of Bedford, Stevenage, Luton and Milton Keynes. The new Bedford & Milton Keynes Yellow Pages directory will cover the main towns of Biggleswade, Ampthill and Leighton Buzzard, as well as their surrounding areas. The new Luton & Stevenage Yellow Pages directory will cover other towns in the region including Letchworth, Hitchin and Dunstable, as well as their surrounding areas.

Commenting on the changes, Richard Duggleby, Head of External Relations at Yell said:
“These changes are in line with the needs and wishes of our customers. We have
always aimed to be the first stop for local information, and I am delighted to
say they will now be even more relevant to local needs.”
