Yellow pages charity daffodil appeal to local business - 21 February 2002
Yellow Pages, based at Queens Walk, Reading, is asking local businesses to pull out all the stops and join it in helping to raise more than £2 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care. This year, Marie Curie Daffodil Day takes place in Reading on Saturday 23 February. Together, Marie Curie and Yellow Pages are encouraging people to wear the charity’s distinctive daffodil buttonhole in return for a donation.
All funds raised from the campaign will go directly to the charity’s nationwide home nursing service, research work and ten hospices. Last year’s campaign raised over £2 million.
The annual Marie Curie Daffodil Campaign has been supported by Yellow Pages for the last four years. The company sponsors 60,000 daffodil collection boxes, 45,000 posters and postcards and 1.5 million information cards.
Susan Irwin, head of public relations at Yell – the publisher of Yellow Pages said: “We are hoping that many businesses will join us in this vitally important fundraising campaign. Please call the Marie Curie Daffodil Hotline today to order daffodil boxes and find out how your company can get involved.”
Val Pearce, community fundraising manager for Marie Curie Cancer Care, said: “We’re very grateful for Yellow Pages support and hope that together we can persuade even more businesses to have daffodil boxes in their offices and outlets this year. I am also looking for street collectors, drivers, office workers and event organisers.”
Daffodils are available now from many local stores and schools. Further information can be obtained by calling the Marie Curie Daffodil Hotline on 0845 601 3107.
