The Lake District tops UK travel search poll, according to Yell.com - 28 November 2003

More people in the UK are interested in finding information about The Lake District than any other national park or scenic area, according to recent statistics from Yell.com Yell.com statistics September 2003 , the UK’s leading online classified directory service.

The New Forest, The Cotswolds, The Yorkshire Dales and Scotland’s Loch Lomond complete the top five. Wales is also represented amongst the most searched for destinations, with Snowdonia as the 10th most popular in UK.

The top 10 destinations are:
1. Lake District

3. Cotswolds
4. Yorkshire Dales
5. Loch Lomond
6. Peak District
7. Forest of Dean
8. Dartmoor
9. Exmoor
10. Snowdonia

The news comes as www.yell.com announces the addition of 220 new UK locations to its geographical search function. The online directory service now recognises more than 35,000 locations throughout the UK.

The site enables visitors to these travel destinations to search for everything from hotels to hiking equipment stores, tourist attractions to restaurants, leading more potential customers to local businesses more of the time.

Chris Collier, chief executive of Cumbria Tourist Board, said: "The Lake District is the UK’s favourite scenic destination because it is an inspiring area of natural beauty with lakes and mountains at its heart. It’s well worth spending time to search among the wide range of options that are available for relaxing and rejuvenating breaks and what better place to start than on the internet."
