Yell launches ‘Yellow Pages 118 24 7’ - 24 March 2003

Yell today launched Yellow Pages 118 24 7, its new telephone information service that provides quality, in-depth classified business information and business and residential number listings - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Building on its 15 years’ experience with Talking Pages, Yellow Pages 118 24 7 will have richer content and more services underpinned by a database of more than 1.8 million businesses and almost 25 million residential listings.

Businesses that advertise will provide callers with a wide range of information such as opening hours, location details, prices and special offers, as well as local film information including titles, times and synopses. Searches for named business and residential telephone numbers will be available too.

Yellow Pages 118 24 7 is an integral part of Yell’s strategy for providing the bridge between buyers and sellers regardless of time, channel or location. Yell’s products and services encompass a range of different media: the book - with the UK’s number 1 classified printed directory Yellow Pages, the Internet - through the UK’s leading online classified directory service Yell.com, and the phone - now through Yellow Pages 118 24 7.

John Condron, chief executive of Yell, said: "Yellow Pages 118 24 7 is a distinctive, high quality service providing callers with extensive business information at whatever time of day or night they want it, from wherever they want it - it’s the only number they need.

"The deregulation in the UK of 192 directory enquiries provides us with the opportunity to widen our already successful phone-based classified directory service and enhance what we offer our callers and advertisers.

"The key difference between us and other 118 operators is the depth of our classified business data. The launch of Yellow Pages 118 24 7 marks our most important step forward on the telephone information front since the launch of Talking Pages in 1988."

Callers will speak to highly experienced, UK-based advisers and be charged the competitive rate of 40p per minute*, billed by the second. They will be given the choice to be put directly through to the business they require through call completion, have the number texted to their mobile or simply have the number read out by the advisor.

John Condron added: "Yellow Pages 118 24 7 capitalises on the strength and recognition of the Yellow Pages brand and reflects perfectly the round-the-clock, ‘24-7’ availability of the service.

"With our strong track record for providing quality classified business information across different media and reputation for excellent customer relations, we expect to command a key position within the UK’s new, developing 118 market."
