New Yellow Pages directories to be launched in the Edinburgh, Dundee and Fife areas - 23 January 2004
Yell today announced that its plans to create three new Yellow Pages directories from its existing Edinburgh and Dundee editions are going ahead following extensive public consultation last year.
The new directories will be formed by splitting the two existing ones, ensuring that the ‘one and only’ Yellow Pages directory continues to reflect strongly the needs of both users and advertisers. The move follows a positive response to the proposals during consultation.
The new Edinburgh Yellow Pages directory will cover an area including Livingston, North Berwick, Dunbar and Hawick. The new Dundee & Perth Yellow Pages directory will cover the communities of Perth, Montrose, Pitlochry and Auchterarder. The third Yellow Pages directory, a new Fife & Kinross directory, will cover the communities of Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Cupar and St Andrews. Until now the Fife region has been split horizontally, the northern part of Fife appearing in the Dundee Yellow Pages directory and the southern half in the Edinburgh Yellow Pages directory.
The new Dundee & Perth directory will publish for the first time in October 2004, and both the new Edinburgh and Fife & Kinross directories will publish in December 2004.
The move reflects changes in population and the changing face of South East Scotland’s communities which have meant that shopping habits and travel patterns have altered significantly.
Research conducted in and around the region prior to the public consultation exercise indicated that the new, community-focused directories would prove even more useful for consumers and businesses.
As part of the consultation exercise, Yell gauged the views of users, advertisers, business figures and political representatives including local councillors and MPs and MSPs.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages, said: "I’m delighted at the positive response to our proposals. The changes are clearly in tune with the needs and wishes of people living and working in South East Scotland and will ensure that Yellow Pages - the UK’s leading classified directory - remains as relevant as possible to their needs."
