Yell.com named as a CoolBrand - 22 September 2006

Yell.com, the UK’s local search engine, has been named as one of the UK’s coolest brands in the annual CoolBrands awards. The acknowledgement is considered a key barometer of the nation’s ‘coolest’ brands, people and places.

Yell.com and the other top 100 CoolBrands of the day were chosen by a panel of judges, known as the ‘CoolBrands Council’ that included MTV presenter and Radio One DJ Trevor Nelson, designer Ben de Lisi and Dazed & Confused editor Nicki Bidder.

The annual awards are run by the Superbrands organisation, which promotes the discipline of branding and also honours exceptional brands.

As a new dimension for 2006, Superbrands also joined forces with market research agency, YouGov, to ask consumers themselves which brands they rate as a CoolBrand – a brand that is extremely desirable, with a strong contemporary reputation.

Eddie Cheng, president of Yell.com, said: “We are delighted that consumers and the Cool Brand Council have chosen Yell.com as one of the UK’s coolest brands. It confirms Yell.com as a modern and relevant local search site for users searching for products and services.”

Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the CoolBrands Council for 2007, said: “With ever-evolving trends and interpretations of what is ‘cool’, this vital step forward makes the consumer knowledge and experience a fundamental part of the programme.”

The awards ceremony took place last night at the exclusive CoolLive event at the ‘Gymnasium’ in King’s Cross.
