Are you ‘doing your bit’? Yellow Pages is. - 11 October 1999

Yellow Pages in Slough is getting right behind the national DETR initiative which invites everyone to ‘do your bit’ for the environment.

The team at Directories House are actually ‘doing a lot’ by staging an environmental exhibition and inviting colleagues to think about how they can make a difference to the environment, both at work and at home.

The Think Again! Environmental Exhibition will feature ideas that could change your life and the planet with information on what Yellow Pages is doing and helpful advice and tips from the DETR’s "are you doing your bit?" campaign. There will be a competition whose prizes include a solar powered radio, an organic food hamper and a composter, which has been kindly donated by Slough Borough Council. The exhibition will be open for employees between midday and 3:00pm on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 October.

John Beer, Central Services Manager, explains the idea behind the project: "Yellow Pages gained registration to ISO 14001 this year and is committed to promoting environmental awareness. We have a network of environmental reps who are incredibly enthusiastic about fulfilling our goal of continuous improvement and this idea came up as a way of spreading that enthusiasm among colleagues".

The environmental representatives at Slough have also made a Planet Pledge with Going For Green as part of the campaign’s October Waste Month. Yellow Pages has pledged to take their ‘Think again’ message about the environment and recycling out into local schools, offering them the opportunity of a video and talk about recycling. Any school wishing to take up the offer should call Tricia Wallington on 01753 507361.
