Norwich Mobile Disco Company to Star in Own TV Ad - 28 April 1999

A Norwich mobile disco company will be the smallest business ever to advertise on British television. Disco duo, Dave Cooper and Phil Bardwell of CD Beat Roadshow, are being given the chance to plug their spinning skills on celluloid after being drawn from more than 48,000 entries to a Yellow Pages Direct Mail competition.

The top prize of a 30-second TV ad, created by London agency Manifesto will be screened on Channel 5 and in CD Beat’s local cinema. CD Beat’s success to date has come solely from its advertising in the Yellow Pages Directory.

Dave Cooper, owner of CD Beat said, "I don’t usually bother with competitions and couldn’t believe it when we found out we’d won. I still have to pinch myself when I think about having our own TV ad made."

CD Beat scooped the top prize in the competition which was open to all small businesses advertising in the Yellow Pages Directory.

Yellow Pages Marketing Communications Controller, Nigel Marson said, "We believe that when we advertise Yellow Pages, we are also promoting the businesses that advertise with us. This competition extends that theme by really putting small businesses in the spotlight."

"We were overwhelmed by the number of entries we received and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished ad," he added.

Filming of the ad is due to commence in June this year, and is expected to be complete by September. It will be debuted in CD Beat’s local pub, before being broadcast on television and in local cinema. Five runners up in the competition each won a wide screen digital television.
