The Yell.com/Awards 2001 launch on May 21, offering every UK internet business the opportunity to win the most sought-after web prize – to be voted the ‘best on the net’ by UK internet users. Internet businesses can encourage their users to nominate them for a Yell.com/Award at www.yell.com/awards.Now in their sixth year, the Yell.com/Awards, dubbed the UK ‘Internet Oscars’, put the UK’s most original, creative and admired web sites in the spotlight, rewarding the effort and dedication that goes into making them the nation’s favourites. From May 21 the public can vote for their favourite sites in new award categories- including the Best Commerce, Best Finance and Best Travel and Leisure site.
John Condron, CEO Yell, said: “These awards recognise the real winners on the net as they reflect the opinion of UK users. As such, they are the real 'people’s choice'. We want this year’s Yell.com/Awards to reward those businesses who have captured the imagination of the UK internet users and the true spirit of the internet in 2001.”
From today, businesses can download a tool kit of ready-made voting icons to help drive nominations for their site at www.Yell.com/awards/Icons (TBC). Public nominations close on July 20 and will be judged by a panel of high profile media figures, who will select an overall winner in each category. All winners will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony in October 2001.
New Yell.com/Award categories offer internet businesses of every size the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. The award categories have been selected to directly reflect how the UK public is using the internet in 2001.
