Marie Curie Cancer Care plants hope - 18 September 2001

Marie Curie Cancer Care is planting hope this autumn with a major package of support from Yell, the publisher of Yellow Pages.

Through Yellow Pages, Yell is sponsoring Marie Curie Cancer Care’s ‘Fields of Hope’ campaign which sees literally thousands of daffodil bulbs being planted as symbols of hope and renewal by school children and volunteers.

Yellow Pages’ support will mean that all funds raised by the ‘Fields of Hope’ will go straight to the charity, which provides in-patient and outpatient services at its Belfast centre, home nursing and education, as well as funding research into the causes and treatment of cancer.

Five new public Marie Curie Cancer Care/Yellow Pages ‘Fields of Hope’ will also be funded, including sites at the Marie Curie Centre, Knock Road, Belfast, the Odyssey complex, Belfast and Belfast City Airport.

John Condron, Chief Executive of Yell said: “Through our support for this campaign, we want to help Marie Curie Cancer Care continue to bring hope and comfort to people in Northern Ireland living with cancer. The xx existing Fields of Hope across the province are a constant reminder of the difference their services and research make to hundreds of local people every day.”

Welcoming Yellow Pages’ support, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Community Fundraising Manager Liz Ritchie said: “Our ‘Fields of Hope’ play a vital role in promoting our services and fundraising. With Yellow Pages’ support we hope to raise around £50,000 through ‘Fields of Hope’ this year.”
