Northern Ireland site shortlisted in Yell.com/Awards - 24 September 2001
A website designed and managed by a Bangor man as a hobby has been shortlisted in the prestigious Yell.com/Awards, dubbed the ‘Internet Oscars.’The site, www.dannybaker.force9.co.uk, was set up by Andrew Gee as a humorous tribute to radio and TV presenter Danny Baker and its style has clearly tickled Internet surfers across the UK – public nominations have made it one of six sites to be shortlisted in the Yell.com/Awards ‘Best funny site’ category.
Andrew’s site will now go forward to a final judging session, competing against national sites such as www.funny.co.uk, www.timeouttime.co.uk, www.whoohoo.co.uk, and www.kissthefish.co.uk. The sites will be judged on content, design, ease of use, use of technology and functionality.
Commenting on the site’s success, Andrew said: “I am absolutely chuffed that the site has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award, as it’s proof we’ve expanded way beyond doffing our hat to a written-off DJ and former soap salesman. It’s hard to imagine that it’s just been three years since I launched the website as a means of learning web design.”
Andrew’s success is all the more notable given the record number of nominations received across all 12 of the categories in this year’s Yell.com/awards, which allow Internet users to vote for their favourite sites.
Andrew will find out whether his site has captured an award at the Yell.com/Awards ceremony in London next month.
