Online banking raises interest rates at the Yell.com/Awards 2001 - 10 September 2001
Out of thousands of nominations, six websites have been shortlisted for the Best Finance Site in the Yell.com/Awards 2001- the people’s choice of the ‘best on the Net’. The shortlisted sites for the Best Finance Site are egg.com, smile.co.uk, firstdirect.com, hsbc.com, fidelity.co.uk and askbm.com.This is a new category in the Yell.com/Awards 2001 and online banks have made a grand entrance with three of the main players making it to the shortlist - egg.com, smile.co.uk and firstdirect.com. However, the only well-known high-street bank to be shortlisted is hsbc.com.
The shortlisted sites represent the whole spectrum of financial services. Smaller banks such as Birmingham Midshires have been recognised for their website askbm.com, which provides online information on its products and services. Furthermore, the popularity of investing online is reflected by the inclusion of Fidelity Investment’s site fidelity.co.uk.
John Condron, CEO of Yell, said: “It’s been another great year for the Yell.com/Awards with an incredible 50% increase in nominations. The Websites that have been shortlisted in the Best Finance Site category should be proud of their achievement - they truly do represent the people’s choice of the best on the Net.”
The judges now face the difficult task of selecting one winner in each of the twelve categories. The winning Websites will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony, hosted by Graham Norton, at the Atlantis Gallery in London on 3 October 2001. Sonique and Talvin Singh will be performing at the awards ceremony.
