Yell hosts Take Our Children to Work Day 2002 - 26 April 2002

Yell hosted its seventh Take Our Children to Work Day yesterday at regional offices in Glasgow, Sale, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Southampton, London and Reading. The day was based on the national campaign, Take our Daughters to Work Day, which was originally designed to introduce girls of 11-15 to non-traditional jobs.

Fifty-two girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 15 experienced a range of learning experiences from shadowing their parents to overviews of different departments. They were also invited to design an advert for Yell and, in return, each child received a certificate to commemorate the day.

In previous years key benefits have included children gaining a better idea of what a workplace is like and encouragement to think more widely about their future. The added bonus is that parents enjoy showing their children what they do.

Yell human resources consultant, Denyse Coles, who arranged the event said: “We have welcomed visits from young people on this pre-work experience day since 1995, because we feel it is important to provide learning opportunities for the next generation.”
