Yell named as ‘Employer of Choice’ in Thames Valley Business Awards - 10 December 2002

Yell, the international directories business, has been named as “The Employer of Choice” in prestigious annual awards run by leading regional business magazine Thames Valley Business.

Yell, whose headquarters is in Reading, was top out of a final six Thames Valley-based companies in the award category, beating into second place
Slough-based 02 UK, the British division of mobile services company mm02, and Datchet-based Computer Associates, which came third.

In winning the award, Yell demonstrated the depth of its commitment to developing and implementing policies that fostered personal development and encouraged continuous improvement.

John Condron, chief executive of Yell which publishes the UK’s Yellow
Pages, said: “ We are delighted to have been judged as ‘The Employer of Choice’ in these awards.

“ A company’s people are part of the lifeblood of any organisation and the way they are treated and their skills nurtured and valued is a key to ensuring the company remains at the competitive edge.

“ Winning this award is a wonderful endorsement of the continuing energy to ensuring we recruit and retain the best.”

Sue Brooks, managing director of category sponsor Profiles Resource Management, an international outsource recruitment consultancy,
said: “ What makes organisations stand out as ‘Employers of Choice’ is no longer purely attractive salaries and benefits.

“ Training and development, performance evaluation processes and company culture are all high priorities to the progressive and
career-conscious employee. Yell impressively demonstrated that these considerations were fundamental to the way it treated its people.”

The award was presented to Yell by MP and former Conservative Cabinet minister Michael Portillo, at a special dinner on November 28 organised by Thames Valley Business magazine at Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey.
