Yellow Pages to introduce new Colchester and Ipswich directories - 15 August 2002
Plans by Yellow Pages to introduce separate directories for the Colchester and Ipswich areas are going ahead following a major consultation exercise.Earlier this year, Yell, publishers of Yellow Pages, invited users and more than 10,000 local and national advertisers in the existing Colchester directory, as well as local political and business representatives to comment on the proposed changes.
The response to the consultation was overwhelming: more than 70 per cent of advertisers who responded said they were in favour of the proposals. The changes reflect the shift in population and the increase in advertisers and users since the existing Colchester Yellow Pages directory was first published more than 20 years ago.
As well as listening to advertisers, Yellow Pages launched a press and radio campaign across the current Colchester directory area, inviting people living and working in the region to voice their opinions on the proposed Ipswich and Colchester directories. In addition, the company contacted local councillors asking for their views.
As a result of the positive response, Yellow Pages will now be introducing new, separate directories in August 2003. The existing Colchester Yellow Pages covers areas in and around Colchester and Ipswich. The new Colchester directory will include Sudbury, Braintree and Clacton-on-Sea, whilst the new Ipswich directory will cover Hadleigh, Felixstowe and Saxmundham.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, said:
“These changes reflect the needs and wishes of our directory users and advertisers in the area. Yellow Pages has always been a key source of local information and I am delighted to say we will now be even more relevant to local needs.”
