Smart launch to Marie Curie Daffodil Campaign - 27 January 2003

Marie Curie Cancer Care and Reading based Yell brought a splash of spring colour to town today when they launched the Marie Curie Daffodil Campaign 2003 in a striking, daffodil-covered ‘SmartCar’, donated to the charity by campaign supporters Yellow Pages.

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations with Yell - the publisher of Yellow Pages, said: "Yellow Pages has supported the Marie Curie Daffodil Campaign for many years and with local public support we hope to help make this the biggest and best yet."

He was joined by Marie Curie Nurse, Eva Harvey, who urged everyone to wear a daffodil - the symbol of cancer care - on Marie Curie Daffodil Day on March 8.

Val Pearce, community fundraising manager for Marie Curie Cancer Care in Berkshire, said: "Marie Curie Nurses make a real difference to people’s lives. They can bring calm to patients and carers alike, ensuring families are not left to cope on their own.

"We can all show our support for this invaluable work by wearing a daffodil and making a donation on Marie Curie Daffodil Day."

Marie Curie Cancer Care combines care for today with scientific research and hope for tomorrow and hopes to raise around £2 million during the month-long Daffodil Campaign. Yellow Pages support means that funds raised will support thousands of Marie Curie nurses nationwide, the charity’s ten hospices and research work.

Fabric daffodil badges are now available at Marie Curie shops, high street retailers, schools and businesses. To make a donation by credit or debit card, please call freephone 0800 716146.
