Yellow Pages launches multi-million pound TV advertising campaign featuring TV star James Nesbitt - 21 March 2003

Yell today announced the launch of a new multi-million pound TV advertising campaign to reinforce Yellow Pages’ position as the leading provider of classified business information. The campaign features James Nesbitt, star of ITV1’s ‘Cold Feet’, in two humorous real-life situations.

The new advertisements show that when looking to make life easier, whatever the situation or challenge, James, playing a character by the same name, turns to the trusted Yellow Pages directory almost as he would turn to a friend.

One of the new advertisements, ‘Yoga’, features James reaching for the Yellow Pages to find a yoga class to impress a new girlfriend. But after an over-strenuous yoga session he is seen leafing through Yellow Pages for a local chiropractor. The second ad, ‘Haircut’, shows James searching for a specialist children’s hairdresser after making a mess of cutting his young niece’s hair.

The new nationwide TV campaign, created by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, will feature on ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and satellite television from Friday (March 21) until the end of April. The ‘Yoga’ commercial is 40 seconds in length and the ‘Haircut’ advertisement is 50 seconds.

John Condron, chief executive of Yell, said: “James is a very endearing character and one with which millions of viewers will associate. Like all of us he sometimes needs help. Our goal with the advertisements is to reach out to a wide audience of existing and potential Yellow Pages users and remind them how they can find a solution just by picking up Yellow Pages.”
