Yellow Pages to introduce two new directories in the Sunderland and Durham area - 28 November 2003
Yellow Pages today announced that its plans to introduce two new directories in the Sunderland and Durham area would go ahead following extensive public consultation earlier this year. The change involves the existing Sunderland Yellow Pages which will be split to create two new directories, ensuring that the ‘one and only’ Yellow Pages directory continues to reflect strongly the needs of both users and advertisers. The response during consultation was strongly in favour of the proposals.
The new Sunderland Yellow Pages directory will cover an area including Boldon, Houghton-Le-Spring, Trimdon, Peterlee and Washington, while the new Durham Yellow Pages directory will cover an area that includes Bishop Auckland, Chester-Le-Street, Consett, St John’s Chapel and Newton Aycliffe. The new directories will be published for the first time in December 2004.
The move reflects changes in population and the changing face of Sunderland and Durham’s communities which have meant that shopping habits and travel patterns have altered significantly.
Research conducted in and around the Sunderland and Durham area prior to the public consultation exercise indicated that the new, community-focused directories would prove even more useful for consumers and businesses.
As part of the consultation exercise, Yellow Pages gauged the views of users, advertisers, business figures and political representatives including local councillors and MPs.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages, said: "I’m delighted that the response to our proposals has been so positive. The changes are clearly in tune with the needs and wishes of people living and working in and around Sunderland and Durham and will ensure that Yellow Pages - the UK’s leading classified directory - remains as relevant as possible to their needs."
