Two new Yellow Pages directories to be introduced in the Plymouth and Cornwall area - 6 February 2004

Yell today announced that its plans to introduce two new Yellow Pages directories in the Plymouth and Cornwall area are to go ahead following extensive public consultation last year.

The change involves the existing Plymouth & Cornwall Yellow Pages directory, which will be split to create two new editions , ensuring that the ‘one and only’ Yellow Pages continues to reflect strongly the needs of both users and advertisers. This follows a positive response during consultation to the proposals.

One directory will be entitled Plymouth & East Cornwall and will cover an area including the city of Plymouth, Liskeard, Launceston, Tavistock and Kingsbridge. The other will be entitled Mid & West Cornwall and will cover the Cornish peninsula stretching from just east of Bodmin down to Land’s End and including the Scilly Isles. Both directories will publish in January 2005.

The move reflects changes in population and the changing face of the Plymouth and Cornwall communities which have meant that shopping habits and travel patterns have altered significantly.

Research conducted in and around the Plymouth and Cornwall area prior to the public consultation exercise indicated that the new, community-focused directories would prove even more useful for consumers and businesses.

As part of the consultation exercise, Yell gauged the views of users, advertisers, business figures and political representatives including local councillors and MPs.

Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages directories, said: "I’m delighted with the positive response to our proposals. The changes are clearly in tune with the needs and wishes of people living and working in the Plymouth and Cornwall area and will ensure that Yellow Pages - the UK’s leading classified directory - remains as relevant as possible to their needs."
