All Cisterns Go blocks out the competition to be named UK's best business name - 19 December 2005
Businesses across the UK have gone head-to-head in the third annual Yell Best Business Names competition with All Cisterns Go, a plumbing services provider from Chichester, scooping the national title and a £5,000 cash prize. All Cisterns Go was selected as the national winner by actor and star of Yell TV ads James Nesbitt, after an extensive search of the UK’s business names. It was up against twelve regional finalists to take the prestigious accolade of ‘Yell Best Business Name 2005’.
All Cisterns Go beat off stiff competition from an impressive UK shortlist. Runners up included Balti Towers, an Indian Restaurant in Halesowen, Tyred & Exhausted, a garage services in Northumberland and Rhythm & Booze, an off-license in Rotherham.
John Hardie, owner of All Cisterns Go, said: “The British public have always been partial to a bit of toilet humour so I wanted to tap (pardon the pun) into this for my business name. I think it also works well as it implies action so people think I’m likely to get the job done quickly which of course I do! Having the best business name in UK is something to treasure and I’d like to thank Yell for organising the competition and helping my business get such great exposure.”
The regional judging panel comprised actor James Nesbit, retail psychologist Dr Tim Denison; Open University linguist Dr Frank Monaghan and Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, publisher of Yellow Pages directories.
Richard Duggleby, head of external relations at Yell, said: “Yellow Pages and Yell.com are full of businesses with humorous and imaginative names and we wanted to recognise and reward the best. Humour is something that customers respond well to and All Cisterns Go caught the eye of the judges with its clever use of wordplay. The competition was open to all businesses throughout the UK and has attracted much attention since its launch in 2003.”
James Nesbitt said: “It’s fantastic that Yell is rewarding companies for showing humour and invention through their business names. Some of this year’s entries were extremely funny and show that there is always room to be light-hearted whilst still running a serious business.”
