Yell and O2 today announced a new deal to deliver Yell.com mobile via the O2 Active portal. The venture marks O2 as the first operator to integrate Yell.com mobile into its mobile services offering and demonstrates Yell.com’s commitment to making its business information accessible to the mobile community.O2 Active users will be able to automatically download Yell.com mobile via the special icon on their O2 Active menu, instead of having to text to download the service.
The deal means that O2 customers can now easily find businesses, shops and services anywhere in the UK – all from their mobile.
Yell.com mobile is a JAVA™ application which is stored on the user’s handset. The application enables users to enter search requests and connect directly to Yell.com’s extensive business database of around two million businesses, shops and services and 151,000 searchable advertisers. It enables users to not only search for business information including addresses and phone numbers direct from their mobile phone, but also to download colour maps and directions to help them find where they want to go.
Martin Wilson, head of mobile at Yell, said: “Yell.com mobile is a unique service - the most advanced of its kind currently available in the UK. Today’s partnership with O2, one of the UK’s leading mobile operators, offers significant benefits to O2 customers by providing them with easy access to local business information when they are on the move.”
Hugh Griffiths, head of data and content from O2, said: “We have seen a growing number of people use O2 Active for this kind of mobile service. Adding Yell.com to our portfolio of services gives our customers increased freedom to find the information they need wherever they are, whenever they want.”
