Yell.com listings and content to underpin Google's UK local search offering - 19 April 2005

Yell today enhanced Yell.com’s position as a leading online advertising medium for UK businesses by signing a distribution agreement with global search engine Google to provide business listings and content for its UK local search offering.

The agreement will bring further benefits to Yell.com's growing advertiser base by giving them exposure to users of Google’s new UK local search tool through the return of their business details in relevant search results.

The deal means that all businesses listed on Yell.com, including more than 130,000 unique advertisers with valuable local content and around 2 million business listings will have potential visibility on Google Local UK. Businesses without websites will also be found in relevant search results through contact details and listings.

The development demonstrates the growing recognition amongst global search engines of the value of relevant and targeted local results, it comes at a time of continued growth in both the local search market and online advertising spend.

Dr Eddie Cheng, president of Yell.com, said: “Delivering effective local search requires specialist business information and experience. We are pleased that Google is using the Yell.com database to underpin its UK local service and look forward to a mutually beneficial agreement.”

Eddie Cheng added: “Joining forces with a global search engine builds on our position as a leading UK local search engine and extends the reach for our advertisers. The agreement is part of the continuing and successful evolution of Yell.com, providing a strong platform for future growth through meeting user and advertiser demand.”
