Meet the 'Dad Lads' - New Yellow Pages ad marks the continuing rise of the ‘GRUP’ - 28 April 2006

KatieFollowing in the footsteps of Brad and Tom and amid recent reports of the rise of the ‘GRUP’ (grown ups who refuse to renounce their youthful ways), James Nesbitt’s Yellow Pages ad character ‘James’ is the latest cheeky chappy to face fatherhood.

JamesThe new ad - which screens for the first time this week - shows ‘James’ getting an insurance quote for his classic sporty two seater Corvette when girlfriend ‘Katie’, played by Vanessa Earl, reveals he is about to become a dad.

Having battled with a baby seat and the Corvette, the ad ends with James calling for a quote for a more practical people carrier.

Nesbitt has played the hugely popular star of Yellow Pages and Yellow Pages 118 24 7 TV ads since 2003. In that time we have seen him stumbling from one tight spot to the next – giving his niece the worst haircut of her life; having sneaky motorbike lessons to maintain the illusion of being a serious biker and a terrifying encounter with a Doberman. While the ad heralds a new era in ‘James’s’ life, there is a sense that he may not be giving up his love of bikes, sporty cars and lads nights out just yet!

Ann Francke, Yell’s chief marketing officer in the UK, said: “We’re continually bringing Yellow Pages in line with people’s changing needs so it’s a logical step to show James moving on in his life, while simultaneously communicating the breadth of businesses listed in Yellow Pages to suit the needs of people at all stages of their lives.”
