Yell.com joins with Pangora to create online shopping channel - 3 November 2006
Yell.com, the UK’s local search engine and Pangora, the leading European provider of product search and online shopping technology, have created an online shopping channel, launched on Yell.com this month. The new shopping channel will offer Yell.com users price and product comparisons, as well as user ratings from Pangora’s millions of UK and European users. It will also offer “product match” and “category match” services that will display results based on Yell.com searches.
This will mean that if a Yell.com user types “iPod,” into the search engine, they will not only get local classified listings, but also listings from Pangora’s 2,5 million products sourced from more than 600 online retailers. Users can find online shops and offline shops all on the same search, saving time and clicks.
The online shopping channel represents Yell.com’s first step towards playing a greater role in the UK e-commerce market. With a reach of 6 million (Nielsen NetRatings, June 2006), Yell.com expands Pangora’s UK market considerably.
Eddie Cheng, president of Yell.com said: “We are always looking for new ways to enhance users’ experience of Yell.com – making it more than just Yellow Pages online. Launching our own shopping channel using Pangora technology means we can offer our users access to a wide range of online and high street shopping outlets, as well as delivering them a host of comparison tools that help them find the right products at the best prices.”
Rob Staunton, head of Pangora UK said: “The UK market is one that Pangora has actively targeted for expansion and Yell.com represents a major new opportunity for us. Pangora offers media owners a way of monetising more of their search traffic by delivering a flexible shopping channel technology. The new service means that Yell.com users are offered more ways of finding the products they are searching for online, quickly and easily.”
