Advertising Transcript - 'Hair Cut'
The 50 second commercial starts in a normal suburban kitchen. James Nesbitt, is there with his six year old niece. She is sitting in the kitchen and James is wrapping a tea towel round her shoulders.
She says:
But Uncle James, mummy said to take me to the hairdresser.
James starts to snip away at her hair and says:
Ah, waste of money. I’ll have a bash myself…
James’s face is showed changing from cheerful to more and more anxious.
We see his niece with wild choppy hair cut at angles and James circling around her trying to snip away at the wild bits of hair.
At this point, the girls mother returns and we hear her shout:
I’m back!
James is shown whipping the scissors away and hiding them behind his back, he says ‘Hi’ sheepishly.
The Mother is shocked by the state of her daughters hair and shouts:
Oh my god!
James decides to bluff and says:
Terrible hairdresser! Leave it to me…Just waiting for the manager to get back, then Boy, is he in trouble.
He makes an aggressive gesture as he speaks and then gestures for his niece to stay quiet.
James is then shown looking through the Yellow Pages and talking into the telephone, he is cowering in the corner of the room so that his sister won’t hear or see him make the call and he speaks quietly into the receiver, saying:
Look, some idiot’s cut my niece’s hair…..Yes please……There’s one other thing I need you to do though…
The advert cuts to later and James, is shown with his niece at the counter of a hairdressers. The mother is shown outside in the car, she is looking through the car window and can see James and the manager of the hairdressers.
We see the mothers anxious face looking at them.
She can see James starts shouting and gesticulating as if he is chastising the hairdresser but cannot hear what he is saying.
We hear James shouting:
I KNOW THIS HAIRCUT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, BUT MY SISTER IS WATCHING OUTSIDE AND I WANT HER TO THINK YOU DID IT. SO YOU SORT OUT THIS TERRIBLE MESS FOR ME AND I WILL PAY YOU DOUBLE , OK?
YOU’RE VERY, VERY NICE PEOPLE. THANK YOU!
The advert ends with James’ smiling face and the Yellow Pages Logo.
