Yell.com Ties In With New Look MSN Search – 1 March 2001

Yell.com, the online destination site from the Yellow Pages Group, today announced that it will become the only business directory within the new look MSN Search. In a renewed distribution arrangement with MSN.co.uk, Yell.com will play a major role in the new search engine, as well as continue its existing presence on the MSN.co.uk site.

The new MSN Search enables users to search across different datasets, including web, news and info, shopping and the Yell.com business directory, by inserting a keyword. In addition to this, there will be a dedicated Yell.com search linked from the MSN home page and tailored Yell.com searches within the MSN consumer channels.

Nick Harknett, general manager of Yell.com, said: "Our involvement with the new look MSN Search, coupled with our renewed distribution arrangement, forms a major part of our strategy to extend our reach to new consumers. In turn, it provides MSN users with access to Yell.com’s fast and relevant search results."

Stuart Anderson, MSN Search marketing manager said: "We want to provide people with what they want in as few clicks as possible, the new tab brings us closer to realising that goal. We are the only search engine that acts as a local directory thanks to this partnership. We can give people access to information relevant to their surrounding area."

He continued: "Search is the second most common activity on the Internet and people use it for research or navigation. We want them to have the best experience possible and will continue to update and improve MSN Search so that it remains the leading Search site on the net."

Yell.com has expanded its reach via the internet, mobile phones and digital television and in distribution arrangements with Freeserve, Excite and Ask Jeeves. Its mobile agreements include BT Internet, Genie from BT Cellnet and the Mviva portal from Carphone Warehouse. Digital television arrangements include Sky TV’s Open, Telewest and ONdigital’s new ONnet service.

Yell.com will also extend its consumer reach via the launch of its first ever TV advertising campaign. The campaign, created by Partners BDDH, will be broadcast from March 1st across ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and major satellite channels. This will run for five weeks at regular peak viewing times and will feature the strapline; ‘Don’t Search, just Yell.com’.
